Ik kwam gisteren Spotify tegen, met Spotify is het mogelijk om gratis online naar muziek te luisteren. Na een dag met Spotify gespeeld  te hebben gemaakt moet ik zeggen onder de indruk te zijn van de service.
Toegang tot nagenoeg alle populaire muziek die ooit gemaakt is op een eenvoudige daar zit ik al jaren op te wachten. Ik heb al enkele playlist gemaakt en deze kunnen vullen met lang vergeten nummers. De muziek collectie is werkelijk indrukwekkend, omdat ze met een groot aantal Labels een deal hebben is er ongelooflijk veel muziek te vinden in diverse genres.

Spotify free is nog niet beschikbaar in Nederland, op de site staat: Unfortunately, due to licensing restrictions we are not yet available in your country. We understand that you are currently in Netherlands.
Het is wel mogelijk om een abbonement te nemen op Premium version. Fortunately dat de internet verbinding op mijn werk via de UK loopt, het is me hiermee gelukt een free account aan te maken.

De Spotify player is nog wel erg basic, er ontbreken diverse onderdelen zoals interactie met vrienden, inline aanbevelingen en ook de radio functionaliteit is zwak, de muziek wijkt naar mijn smaak teveel af van het gekozen genre / periode.
Daarentegen is de player zeer snel met afspelen, klik op play en het afspelen begint direct, tot nu toe heb ik nog niet gemerkt dat de muziek vanaf het internet wordt gestreamed. Het is bovendien prettig dat de player Last.fm ondersteuning heeft, zodat de afgespelde tracks netjes gescrobbled kunnen worden. Er wordt ook gewerk aan een iPhone player!

Een service als Spotify heeft het in zich om Internet Piracy terug te dringen door er simpelweg een betere service tegen over te zetten. Non subscribers krijgen af en toe reclame voorgeschoteld (al heb ik er nog niks van gemerkt) geen zin in reclame dan is voor 10 euro per maand toegang zonder reclame mogelijk Al met al lijkt me een redelijke deal die het overwegen zeker waard is.

Heerlijk de Simplifymedia software. Zodra deze client op een server of werkstation is geïnstalleerd en er een media library is toegevoegd kan de volledige muziek collectie over het internet benaderd worden. Er kunnen verschillende cliënts worden gebruikt om de muziek collectie te benaderen.

Het werkt perfect samen met mijn iPhone maar ook met iTunes,
